I’ve been building web projects for small and medium businesses for years. GDPR compliance questions come up constantly. My answer used to be “here’s a cookie banner plugin.” These days it’s more like: let’s look at your whole stack.

I recently launched EuroToolKit — a curated directory of GDPR-ready SaaS tools built by European companies. While building it, I went through hundreds of tools. What surprised me: the European alternatives are genuinely good now. Not “good for a European alternative.” Just good.

Here are the categories where I’d actually make the switch.

Analytics: Plausible instead of Google Analytics

Plausible is the one I recommend most often to clients who ask about ditching GA4. It runs without cookies or personal data collection, which means you don’t need a cookie consent banner at all — and it’s built and hosted entirely in the EU. Cookie consent: Cookie Information or Cookiebot

Two Danish options, both solid, slightly different angles.

Cookie Information solves a specific problem: they recover up to 40% of analytics data typically lost when visitors decline cookie consent — which matters a lot if you’re trying to make sense of traffic numbers in a post-GDPR world. Based and hosted entirely in the EU. Listed here.

Cookiebot is the enterprise pick. It auto-scans your site for cookies, works across platforms, and is backed by Usercentrics. If you’re managing compliance for multiple clients, this is the one to know. Listed here.

AI chat: DentroChat instead of ChatGPT

The pitch here is simple: everything runs on 100% European infrastructure, no US transfers. If you work with clients in regulated industries or just don’t want to feed your business conversations into American AI training pipelines, this matters. DentroChat is Estonian and covers text, images, and file analysis. Here it is.

Meeting notes: Meetily instead of Otter.ai

Meetily is the interesting one. It runs 100% locally on your machine — no data leaves your PC, full stop. For anyone doing client calls where you’d rather not have a third-party service hoovering up the conversation, this is the cleanest solution I’ve found. German-built, GDPR compliant by design. Scheduling: TuCalendi instead of Calendly

Spanish-built, GDPR compliant, supports payments and calendar sync. Functionally it covers everything Calendly does for most use cases. The difference is where your booking data sits — and whether that matters to you or your clients. On EuroToolKit here.

DMARC: DMARC Advisor instead of Dmarcian

Email authentication is one of those things most small businesses ignore until something goes wrong. DMARC Advisor is Dutch, gives you solid reporting on SPF/DKIM alignment, and protects against spoofing. If you manage email deliverability for clients, having a European provider in your toolkit is worth it. Listed here.

The point isn’t to be ideological about American software. It’s that European alternatives now exist that are genuinely competitive — and for businesses that work with European clients, the compliance argument is a real one, not just box-ticking.

Worth a look through the directory. You’ll probably find at least one swap that makes sense for your stack.
